From WeChat to LINE in Thailand
Your WeChat playbook works in China. In Thailand, customers live on LINE. We redesign it for LINE, then build and run it.

Why LINE
In Thailand, the chat app is the channel — not a supporting one
LINE reports 56 million monthly active users in Thailand (Oct 2025, LINE via DataReportal: Digital 2026 Thailand) — in a country of roughly 70 million people. For most Thai consumers it is where they talk to friends, receive bank alerts, collect loyalty points and buy things, often without leaving the app.
That is the same structural position WeChat holds in China. It is why a WeChat-native brand usually has the right instincts for Thailand — and why the assets themselves do not transfer.
The mapping
What each part of your WeChat stack becomes on LINE
| On WeChat | On LINE | What changes in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Official Account | LINE Official Account (OA) | Messaging is credit-based per message, so broadcast-everything stops being viable. Segmentation pays for itself. |
| Mini Program | LIFF, then LINE MINI App | LIFF is a web app opened inside LINE and ships fast. A Verified MINI App passes LINE review and unlocks service messages. |
| WeChat Login / OpenID | LINE Login | New identity namespace. User IDs are per-provider and cannot be imported. |
| Template message | Messaging API (push, multicast, Flex) | Richer layout control, but you design and pay per send rather than filling a fixed template. |
| WeChat Pay | Thai payment gateway — PromptPay, cards, LINE Pay | Payment is not bundled with the messaging platform. You pick a Thai gateway and integrate it. |
| Coupons & membership | CRM + loyalty built on Messaging API / LIFF | No built-in coupon object. Membership rules live in your system, surfaced through LINE. |
Reality check
What does not move, and what you can reuse
Does not transfer
- Followers and OpenIDs. Two separate platforms with separate identity systems. You rebuild the audience in Thailand.
- Mini Program code. Different runtime and APIs. The front end is rewritten for LIFF or MINI App.
- WeChat Pay. Not available as your Thai checkout. A Thai gateway replaces it.
- Existing coupons and point balances. They live in your China stack. Migrating balances is a data decision, not a platform feature.
Usually reusable
- Backend APIs. If your membership, catalogue or order services are already API-first, LINE becomes another client.
- Membership logic. Tiers, earn and burn rules, campaign mechanics — the thinking carries over.
- Content and creative direction. Localised, not recreated.
- Parts of the UI. Flows and screen logic often survive the rewrite even when the code does not.
What we build
The shape of a LINE stack for a brand entering Thailand
How we work
Three stages, each with its own deliverable
Diagnostic
A fixed-scope engagement. We review your WeChat setup and Thailand plan, then hand over a target architecture, a phased plan and a quotation. You can take it to another builder — it is yours.
Build
We start with LIFF because it ships fastest and proves the journey with real users. We move to a Verified MINI App when there is a concrete reason — service messages, or the credibility of LINE’s review.
Operate
Day-to-day OA management, campaigns and reporting your HQ can read. Thai-language execution on the ground, English reporting upward.
Why Spark Factor
Strategy and engineering under one roof, certified by LINE
Praphat Srisuma
CEO & Founder, Spark Factor · LINE Master Coach 2026 · LINE Certified Coach for API (2023)
Certified by LINE on both tracks. Our founder is a LINE Master Coach 2026 and a LINE Certified Coach for API (2023) — the technical track, not only the business one.
In-house engineering. A 12-person development team at our affiliate Teema Solution, so architecture is decided with the people who will build it.
Judged on the national stage. Bronze, Excellence in Data-Driven Marketing, Marketing Excellence Awards Thailand 2026 — the same category as dentsu X Thailand and Zenith Media Thailand.
Enterprise LINE API in production. For GSB NOW, the LINE OA of Government Savings Bank, we built the quiz-based point collection system, per-user e-voucher rewards and the push Flex Message programme, on Messaging API.
We have not yet run a WeChat-to-LINE migration end to end, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we bring is the LINE half done properly, and engineers who have integrated LINE with core banking and enterprise systems.
Data & PDPA
Designed for Thai data rules from the first diagram
Thai customer data stays on infrastructure in Thailand. Your HQ sees aggregated dashboards rather than raw personal data. Consent is designed into the sign-up and linking flow from the start, not retrofitted before launch.
We build systems to support your compliance position. Legal advice on PDPA comes from your own counsel — we work to what they specify.
FAQ
What China-based teams ask us first
Can we reuse our Mini Program?
Not the code. Mini Programs run on WeChat’s own runtime, so the front end is rewritten for LIFF or LINE MINI App. What usually survives is everything behind it — your APIs, business rules and data model — plus the interaction design itself. In practice the rewrite is smaller than teams expect when the backend is already API-first.
How is LIFF different from a LINE MINI App?
LIFF is a web app that opens inside LINE. You control it end to end and can ship quickly, which makes it the right first step for most launches. A LINE MINI App is a verified experience that passes LINE’s review; it unlocks service messages and carries the credibility of that review. We normally start on LIFF and move when there is a specific reason to.
Can we take payments inside LINE?
Payment is not bundled the way WeChat Pay is. You integrate a Thai payment gateway — PromptPay, cards or LINE Pay through a gateway — and call it from your LIFF or MINI App. This is a normal integration, but it is a decision to make early because it affects the checkout journey.
Where does our customer data live?
On infrastructure in Thailand, under your ownership. LINE holds the messaging identifiers; the profile, membership and transaction data sit in systems you control. Your HQ gets reporting access at an aggregated level, which is usually what governance teams want anyway.
How do you work with our HQ team?
Documentation, architecture and reporting in English; execution and customer-facing copy in Thai. Diagnostic deliverables are written so an engineering lead in China can review them without a translator in the room.
Where do we start?
With the Diagnostic. It is fixed in scope and ends with an architecture, a phased plan and a quotation — enough for you to budget, and enough to take elsewhere if you decide not to build with us.
Planning a Thailand launch?
Tell us what you run on WeChat today and when you plan to go live in Thailand. We will come back with the shape of the LINE build and what the Diagnostic would cover.
